Position Summary

The Infrastructure department’s goal is to provide reliable data center and cloud infrastructure to Demonware’s Title, Product and Platform teams. We design, build and operate infrastructure in multiple data centers, including network, compute and storage with hundreds of racks and thousands of servers. We also have a significant infrastructure footprint in AWS and provide tooling for accounts, IAM, VPC and VPN access. We are also responsible for hardware inventory, DNS and all IP connectivity to our data centers including connectivity to the Internet and AWS. Some of our current projects include data center standardisation, commodity storage solutions and development of best practices for running infrastructure in AWS.

As our hosting platform is evolving, we are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure Tooling team. With a passion for automation, you will be part of building automated infrastructure with world-class efficiency and reliability.

You enjoy software engineering challenges and will provide a variety of tooling such as data center visualization that enables us to build better systems in less time so that our teams can stay agile and productive.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new tools to improve workflows across the department
  • Identify problems or inefficiencies facing our engineers and drive adoption of new tools, process or infrastructure to help make everyone's lives better
  • Contribute to the team's roadmap, including requirements gathering, design and even deprecation & replacement of our existing tools
  • Own, operate and support the tools and automation that you and your team develop
  • Participate in design and code review of the software produced on the team
  • Provide outstanding support to the engineers who utilize and depend on your tools and automation
  • Take ownership of problems and projects which require in-depth evaluation
  • Be willing to become a subject matter expert on all things infrastructure
  • Requirements
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent program
  • 5+ years relevant work experience, ideally in a high-volume or critical production service environment
  • Experience working at scale
  • Passion for Automation - A desire to automate all the things
  • Passion for Problem Solving
  • Strong knowledge of Python, Perl or similar programming language
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms for writing scalable, high-performance software
  • Experience with at least one major data store such as MySQL, MongoDB
  • Knowledge of Linux system internals and networking
  • Excellent analytical/troubleshooting skills
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work and deliver under pressure

  • Experience in monitoring and metrics systems, e.g. Nagios, Zabbix, Graphite
  • Experience working with container cluster management technologies such as Mesos and Kubernetes
  • Experience describing and operating infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience enabling product teams with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines
  • Experience working with public cloud providers and cloud technologies
